Hong Kong · in person
12 options
Attend in person in Hong Kong. With most banks the account opens the same day and online banking and the card are handed over then; a few post the card or require collection at a branch.
Cross-border account opening
Opening an account is not difficult in itself. What is difficult is whether the documents are right, whether the witnessing method is the right one, and whether anything is missing on the day. Get those three wrong and the trip to Hong Kong is wasted. We narrow the twenty-four options down to the ones that work for your documents, assets, ability to travel and intended use, check the paperwork in advance and book the witnessing — doing properly the part that can be controlled.
Coverage
Every bank differs in what it requires, how long it takes, how it witnesses signatures and what it expects to be deposited. We narrow the field to the workable ones for your documents and assets and explain the differences one by one — at no charge for that step.

Process
Establish the intended use, the documents held, what asset evidence is available and whether travel to Hong Kong or Macao is possible — and narrow the field accordingly.
We set out the conditions, timing, witnessing method and cost of each workable option; you choose the bank.
Every document is checked against that bank's requirements and anything deficient is corrected first. Nothing goes to the appointment with a known problem.
Arranged according to the chosen method: in person in Hong Kong or Macao, or by appointment at a Mainland branch, a designated solicitor, home video or online.
The document checklist and arrangements are provided beforehand, with support on the day through the forms and submission.
Online banking and the card are handed over, with that bank's deposit requirement and ongoing charges explained.
FAQ
No. A renminbi deposit certificate from a Mainland account is acceptable, and some banks will take statements or app screenshots. Requirements vary widely, and some options set no asset requirement at all.
For a Hong Kong personal account opened in person, the account is usually live the same day, with online banking and the card handed over then. Remote witnessing, Singapore and other jurisdictions follow the bank's own process and typically take some weeks. A clear expectation is given once the bank is chosen.
Yes. For Hong Kong there are options using appointment-based witnessing at a Mainland branch, a designated solicitor, or video from home. All five Singapore banks work by online witnessing, and the other jurisdictions use video witnessing or online signature. None requires travel.
Most Hong Kong banks require an activating deposit, the amount varying by bank. Singapore and Macao set materially higher minimums and may require a specified product to be taken up. All of this is explained at the point of choosing the bank, not after the account is open.
It depends on the jurisdiction, the bank chosen and the witnessing method. Ask for a written quotation; no prices are listed on this page, and nothing is charged beyond the quotation.
Yes. We look first at documents, assets and ability to travel to narrow the field, then review each document before booking any witnessing. Whether the account is opened is decided independently by the bank; where it is not going to work, we say so in advance rather than letting you make a wasted trip.
Our limits
Whether an account opens is the bank's independent decision. We answer for matching bank to case, reviewing documents, arranging the witnessing and supporting you on the day — for the controllable part. We give no guarantee as to the outcome.
The number of options, the timing and the witnessing methods here reflect the banks' positions at the time of writing. Bank policy shifts affect what is available. Each bank's published terms and the documents it issues govern.
We give no investment advice and make no representation about returns; we do not arrange cross-border movement of funds or currency conversion; and we do not hold account credentials or passwords on your behalf. Use of the account and any reporting obligations rest with the account holder.
